With companies that can offer truck rentals, some people find it more cost effective to move their own furniture with the help of a few friends. But does it really save you time  in the long run? Let’s take a look at the difference between moving yourself, and choosing a reputable moving company to help.

With moving yourself, you need to make sure that you have a truck reserved for your planned moving day. Typically there are trucks available, but not always. If you have to move on a specific date, can you afford to have that kind of hiccup in your hectic moving day?

For your moving day, you need consistency, especially if you’re trying to reduce the amount of stresses that naturally come with moving. But let’s say that you did have a truck secured, and are getting friends to help move you. Can you be guaranteed that they’ll be ready to go on moving day?

Emergency appointments, illnesses, or other things may leave them unable to help move you, which can really put a damper on the whole day. But again, let’s say that everyone showed up and everything seems like it’s ready to go. What would happen if something expensive was broken during the move, whether it be monetary valuable, or even sentimental? Are you going to expect your friend to compensate for the damages? Are you going to have a strong relationship with that person after they accidentally damaged your priceless furniture, if they can’t afford to replace it or repair it?

Having the necessary tools to move is extremely important. You appreciate the help that they’re offering, but moving furniture is truly a work of art. If the picture is painted right, it looks beautiful. But one wrong smudge, or one colour off, and it ruins the whole thing.
